Why Does NPR Have A Facebook Killer?
Submitted by Solacetech on October 8, 2008 - 4:22pm.I must be bias somehow. I've never heard one NPR show. I can't really explain why I don't like them. I'm sure they have great programs and they are #1 on iTunes Podcasts sometimes. I just think of college radio when I think of them. I've been on college radio before and the feel just doesn't fit right.
It's Social|Median On Facebook YAY!!!
Submitted by Solacetech on October 6, 2008 - 4:04pm."It's a 2 email day. Forgive me, but I have something very important to ask you. What tastes better than chocolate and peanut butter? Not much. But, we think we may have found something. socialmedian + facebook have now been brought together. Check it out the next time you log in to socialmedian. Or, at http://apps.facebook.com/socialmedian/ Which means you can instantly let your Facebook friends know whether you like or dislike a news story. And seriously, what's cooler than that?"
Did Your IT Dept. Ban TWITTER Yet?
Submitted by Solacetech on July 29, 2008 - 6:30am.Social Networking and Employees: Where Do You Draw the Line? [SearchEngineWatch]
"With the rise of social networking, employers are left wondering if or how the trend affects their bottom line. Many have decided that Facebook and MySpace in the workplace are not appropriate (for content or productivity reasons) and have banned the sites from being accessed at their offices."
Twitter is still safe but Youtube is banned at my job. They even jammed secret ninja proxy! This article makes a good point of how it's harder to monitor these activities with the mobile technology on our hips though. I remember jobs where the reps would whisper to each other about not working on their websites on the clock. Umm does thumbing a post from my cell count? :)

Thanx @kessler for the heads up. I wonder if Mark mentions the new look and the reason why it looks like Friend Feed...Naw he probably won't. Click on the above link:
Can Social Networks Hurt You?
Submitted by Solacetech on July 19, 2008 - 10:48pm.As already known, employers search social networks to research potential employees before the interview. Now prosecutors also search to find anything incriminating against potential criminals...
"Social networking sites are just another way that people say things or do things that come back and haunt them," said Phil Malone, director of the cyberlaw clinic at Harvard Law School's Berkman Center for Internet & Society. "The things that people say online or leave online are pretty permanent."
In the case above, the person seriously injured someone in a car accident then went to a Halloween party dressed up in prison wear. Someone else there posted pics of the party on Facebook. This situation just highlights how what we do online can help and/or hinder us. Of course this depends on what we do in the real life. Even when we are doing good though, our online profile helps us until trolls or cyber bullies decide to make trouble. It's a big risk using your actual name online too, but that's my opinion. What do you think?
Look who's coming to Social Media's Dinner...
Submitted by Solacetech on July 5, 2008 - 5:30am."Throw a stapler at a Facebook friend, courtesy of Microsoft Office. Become a fan of Victoria's Secret Pink to discuss favorite bra colors. Show off your love for Slim Jim snacks with a virtual poke."
It's about time. Finally our "parents" in charge of the Big companies are taking notice of their kids activities and buying habits. The article below brings out how brand names like Slim Jim and Victoria's Secrets are harnessing social media and it's eyeballs. That's great since most consumers today are also spending most of their time on Facebook and Myspace. It's good seeing these business recreate themselves to adjust to today's media. The sad part is how much of TV's ad revenue is being affected right now? Would you pay to advertise online and TV?

Facebook can't beat this!
Submitted by Solacetech on June 22, 2008 - 1:53am.Do we remember the original purpose for www.facebook.com ? I'm not talking about Mark Z's reason. I mean the reason why the members would post pics of themselves at parties and concerts and parks... Do they still do that? With the advent of the "application" feature, i wonder if facebook's stickiness equals less activity. I remember my coworkers surfing facebook for girls when it first came out. Now they are probably sending each other movie and music quizzes. I might be wrong Since apps like www.britekite.com does emphasize your active location. Still, sometimes you can't beat sitting in front of another person instead of a pc...
Tweet in your sleep with chirpscreen
Submitted by Solacetech on May 1, 2008 - 10:21pm.Well really while your PC is in screensaver mode. Thanks to www.benkessler.com for blogging about this new app. Chirp Screen( http://www.chirp.com/ ) integrates your facebook and flickr contact photos. It also shows your twitter conversations, while in screensaver mode! It's not meant to be interactive, just a cool use of multimedia rss feeds. I'm sorry, it also shows ebay items but who still uses that site?
In other news, I have to see if http://www.phillyd.tv put himself on iTunes yet. He's the guy on my chirp screen shot. His videos are actually pretty funny. How did I find 'em? His name is PHILLYD....come on, do I really have to say?
The Friend Feed Parade
Submitted by Solacetech on April 12, 2008 - 2:19pm. Twitter owes Co-founders Bret Taylor, Jim Norris, Paul Buchheit and Sanjeev Singh a check. They have single handedly saved twitter via Friend Feed. Just a couple of months ago after Pownce kicked it into high gear, The influential techies were getting tired of twitter. Facebook integrated it's feed stream and a hundred different websites did the same. So what's so "killer" about FriendFeed? It's power and simplicity IMO. You can comment, post and keep up to date on all of your feeds, twits and friends/contacts. It's a social network made up of layers. You can have CEO's, software engineers, famous Silicon Valley bloggers and just your friends all at the same time but not mixed in together, you can't see my buddy twit about the Sixers unless you know him/her too. The playing field is so level, a lowly IS Field Engineer like me can get the tech news almost (almost) before www.techcrunch.com does, if not at the same time.
So, where do we go from here? Take a look at www.toluu.com and www.socialmedian.com. There's others like www.alltop.com but toluu and social median has a better feel to it. As an user, getting an email of the latest stories in the categorizes I choose is nice. As a blogger, I'm literally salivating at the thought of one of these Betas going public along with my submitted blog...It's a win-win situation and I'm glad to be here to see the Friend Feed Parade...
